Community Engagement Lead - Good Life Schools
Global Action Plan
Have you worked directly with young people or local communities to design and deliver projects that create positive change? Have you led workshops, facilitated group discussions or supported community-led initiatives, whether in schools, youth centres or local settings? If you have experience building partnerships, creating inclusive spaces and/or supporting others to take actions on the issues they care about, we’d love to hear from you.
Global Action Plan is looking for a Community Engagement Lead to lead the delivery of the Good Life Schools programme in South Yorkshire and the Midlands, as part of our Generation Action team. Good Life Schools is funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund.
Good Life Schools is a student-led education programme for secondary schools, supporting young people to reflect on what makes a good life and design a hopeful new way of living. The programme strengthens the relationship between schools and their local communities, supporting everyone to lead good lives. The programme is working with communities in three regions of the UK – South Wales, North East England, and South Yorkshire and the Midlands.
In this role you will project manage the regional delivery of the Good Life Schools, with support from the Head of Good Life Schools. Your responsibilities will include a mixture of administrative tasks and face-to-face delivery in schools. Desk-based work includes planning delivery schedules, managing small budgets, communicating with schools and partner organisations, and maintaining accurate records of school and community engagement activities in your region.
You will work closely with Sheffield City Council and Leicester City Council to recruit and onboard schools to the Good Life Schools programme. On average, you will work with 10 schools per academic year, maintaining ongoing relationships and visiting each school at least once per term. During these visits, you will support teachers and students in engaging with the programme activities and guide them through the process of co-creating a Good Life Charter – a school-wide framework that supports lower-impact lifestyles and good wellbeing.
Alongside your work in schools, you will identify opportunities to build local partnerships with organisations that can provide practical support and learning experiences for students. For instance, if students choose to start a school repair shop, you will be responsible for securing a local expert, such as a bike mechanic or textile mender, to provide skill-building sessions.
You will gather and report evidence of impact throughout the year, liaising regularly with council partners and contributing insights to regional and national network meetings. You will also take the lead in planning and delivering an annual Good Life Schools Summit in your region, bringing together young people, educators and community members to celebrate progress and share ideas.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, especially those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and marginalised ethnic groups, who are currently underrepresented in this line of work. If you have transferable skills and experience but don’t meet every requirement listed, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to building an inclusive team.
