About the Hawk and Owl Trust

The Hawk and Owl Trust is a UK conservation charity, now in its 56th year, dedicated to the protection of birds of prey and the preservation of their natural habitats. Through practical conservation, education, research, and habitat management, we work to ensure that these vital species continue to thrive across the UK.

As we look to the future, we are seeking new Trustees to help guide and strengthen our mission.

What will you be doing?

Help Shape the Future of Wildlife Conservation – Become a Trustee at the Hawk and Owl Trust

Are you passionate about wildlife and conservation? Do you have strategic insight, governance experience, or specialist skills to offer? The Hawk and Owl Trust is looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in overseeing the strategic direction and governance of our charity. Working collectively, the Board ensures that the Trust’s values, goals, and objectives are clearly defined and aligned with our governing document.

What you need to know:

  • The Board focuses on governance and long-term planning, not day-to-day operations, which are managed by the Chief Operations Director.
  • We currently have nine Trustees.
  • Our Trustees come from a variety of professional backgrounds, and we conduct an annual skills audit to ensure the Board remains effective, balanced, and equipped to meet future challenges.

This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your expertise to a cause that matters — helping protect and preserve the UK’s birds of prey and their habitats.

If you’re ready to make a difference and support a cause you care about, we’d love to hear from you.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome expressions of interest from anyone who feels they can make a positive contribution to the Board and the wider work of the Trust. We value diversity of thought, background, and experience.

That said, our 2024 skills audit has highlighted specific areas where the Board would particularly benefit from additional expertise. We are especially keen to hear from individuals with experience in:

  • Scientific Expertise – ideally in ecology, conservation, ornithology, or a related environmental science field
  • Fundraising – including event planning, donor research, and developing fundraising strategy

If you bring skills in these areas—or believe your experience could enhance our work in other ways—we would love to hear from you.

What difference will you make?

As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Hawk and Owl Trust. While you won’t be involved in day-to-day operations, your strategic oversight, guidance, and professional insight will provide essential support to the Trust’s leadership team.

By contributing your time, knowledge, and perspective, you’ll help ensure the charity remains effective, well-governed, and true to its mission — protecting birds of prey and conserving their natural habitats for generations to come.
