St Nicks
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, aiming to gain experience in nature
conservation for a six-month term. St Nicks, “The green heart of York”, is located on a 24-acre
Local Nature Reserve (LNR) former landfill site which boasts a mosaic of habitats and over 2400
species of wildlife. As Volunteer Park Rangers, you will gain a great sense of satisfaction and
achievement and give you the opportunity to connect with our wonderful nature reserve in a way
that many others don’t.
About the role
With our support, on-going supervision and ‘on the job’ training, you will help the St Nicks team to look after our unique and diverse nature reserve; leading and supporting volunteer groups; surveying and monitoring species and habitats; improving site access and maintaining signage; engaging with nature reserve users; and helping out at events.
There will be opportunities to access additional training for successful candidates, including formal first aid training.
Workdays: 2 days per week minimum – Tuesdays & Wednesdays with additional opportunities depending on applicant availability.

We are St Nicks, based at St Nicks Environment Centre hidden behind residential properties in the
Tang Hall area of York. We have a thriving 24 acre nature reserve that is free to explore 24 hours
a day 365 days a year. Our volunteer team help us maintain and manage our reserve for the benefit
of people and wildlife. We have recently expanded into managing green corridors around York.
