Interested in volunteering with Cumbria Wildlife Trust on the ‘The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery’ project? The Bay is a nature and wellbeing programme of events, offering people living around Morecambe Bay area, the opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and take part in a range of activities. Barrow-in-Furness is at the northernmost point of the Bay project area. Assist with group nature and wellbeing sessions in the Barrow area with The Bay team.

Do you love wildlife? Experience and share the joy of the rich variety of habitats and wild plants and animals that live in The Bay, with session attendees.

Are you a people person? An approachable and friendly manner. Have confidence in talking to members of public, of varying ages and backgrounds.

Becoming a nature and wellbeing volunteer, is a unique opportunity to learn new conservation and people skills. Evidence shows that a thriving, wildlife-rich environment benefits both physical and mental health. People with nature on their doorstep are more active, mentally resilient and have better all-round health. Nature and wellbeing volunteers help to connect people to nature and also help people take action to protect wildlife.

The Bay project run weekly two-hour long Nature and Wellbeing sessions using the coastal environment and natural world to positively impact people’s health and mental well-being. We are seeking volunteers to support Nature and Well-being Officer, to run the sessions.

Group activities range from conservation, growing, arts and crafts, mindfulness and nature walks. The group participants will be working towards a John Muir Award, you could get yours too! Your role will involve helping to set up, support the running of the activities and packing up of the event.

No prior experience is required, however ideally the volunteer would be able to give their time regularly each week so that they can form relationships with those in the group.

You don’t need to be a wading bird or starfish expert, just have a natural enthusiasm for the all the wildlife that you and session attendees will encounter.

Training, hot brews and support will be provided.

Travel costs will be reimbursed and lift sharing can often be arranged on request.

Please note DBS (paid by Cumbria Wildlife Trust) may be required.

Is this for you? Want to learn more about this role? We'd love to hear from you.
