The Bumblebee Conservation Trust (the Trust) is looking for a part-time Skills for Bees: Scotland Project Officer

Do you love bumblebees as much as we do? This is a unique opportunity to share your love of nature and passion for bumblebees within the stunning Cairngorms National Park, in Scotland, home to some of our rarest bumblebee species. By recruiting and supporting volunteers, and working with local partner organisations, you will play a primary role in increasing bumblebee surveying in the Cairngorms area of Scotland, with a particular focus on training and mentoring volunteers for our national bumblebee monitoring scheme, BeeWalk. (www.beewalk.org.uk)

To conserve bumblebees, we must first know which species are where, and how they are doing. Along with our standard BeeWalk methodology, you will empower the local community to increase bumblebee records through training days, refresher courses and mentoring, and targeted surveys of rare bumblebee sites. You will also have the opportunity to get creative and engage local communities and visitors to the area through a range of outreach-focused activities.

You will have experience of bumblebee identification, ideally including rare species. You will be a clear and fluent communicator, ideally with experience of leading training courses or equivalent. As this is a home-based, remote-working position you will be organised and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and travel to remote locations.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for more details of the role. Any offer will be subject to satisfactory completion of a PVG check.

This is a part-time post for 21 hours per week. Some overtime work may be required and a flextime system is in place.

This is a 0.6 FTE part-time position, home-based in Scotland with regular travel within the Cairngorms National Park and occasional travel throughout the UK. We currently have confirmed funding until 30 June 2026 but are fundraising with hopes to continue the project until April 2028.
