The Environment Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England. Being an Environment Officer is one of our most vital roles. In this position, you'll be solely focused on regulating one of the nine water companies across the country. Your work will involve:

This role is perfect if you're passionate about environmental improvement and ready for a challenging yet rewarding career. You'll join a frontline team, contributing directly to a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all.

Your Development Journey:

You’ll join at EOA grade and follow a structured development programme leading to promotion to EOB grade. This typically takes around 18 months.

Your training will include:

  • Residential sessions (3–5 days at a time, for at least 3 weeks overall)

  • Support to build your technical knowledge, regulatory understanding, and personal effectiveness

We’ll provide all the tools, training, and PPE you need to stay safe and succeed in your role.

  • Generous Pension: Secure your future with our excellent pension scheme.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays, with options for flexible working.
  • Career Growth & Comprehensive Training: Benefit from structured development, mentorship, and continuous learning. Note: Initial training includes residential periods (approx. 3-5 days at a time for at least 3 weeks), requiring travel and overnight stays.
  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to protecting and enhancing the environment, making a real difference.
  • Inclusive Culture: Join a supportive team that values diversity and collaboration.
  • Extra Perks: Opportunities for overtime, paid environmental outcomes days, and comprehensive leave schemes (maternity, paternity, adoption).
  • Options for flexible and / or part-time working may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Induction and training are expected to begin in Autumn 2025, with a planned start date of October 2025.

What We're Looking For:

  • Full UK Driving License. Please note, if you are invited to interview, we will contact you to conduct a DVLA driving licence check. More information on this process will be provided to you should you reach this stage of the recruitment process.
  • GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in a Science-related subject or relevant work experience.
  • Customer Service Experience: You'll be engaging with local businesses, communities, and operators.
  • Passion for the Environment: A strong drive for environmental improvement and resilience to succeed.
