With over 15 years of experience tackling fuel poverty and supporting domestic energy needs, PECT helps people live in warmer, healthier homes while reducing energy bills. Our trusted advice services have supported thousands of households. In light of the cost-of-living crisis and climate change, this work is more vital than ever.
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
As a Project Officer in the Energy Advice team, you will provide tailored support to households across the region. You will assess energy needs and offer personalised advice to help residents stay warm, reduce energy costs, and maximise income. Full training will be provided, no previous experience in energy advice is necessary.

- Based: Two days per week based at Ham Lane House, Ham Lane, Peterborough, PE2 5UU, with flexible home working available depending on organisational and role requirements.
- Salary (per annum pro rata): £24,000-26,500 – depending on experience

- Hours/Week: 37 hours
- Work outside normal hours: Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
- Reports to: Domestic Energy Lead
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Energy Advice and Support
- Deliver one-to-one support to households facing fuel poverty, providing advice over the phone, at events, or through home visits.
- Educate clients on fuel management, energy efficiency, and how to reduce bills.
- Raise awareness of available grants, support with applications, and assist with switching energy tariffs.
- Provide guidance on dealing with energy debt and help with debt relief applications.
Community Engagement
- Represent PECT at community events, promoting services and providing face-to-face energy advice.
- Build positive relationships with individuals and organisations to enhance engagement and reach.
Project Delivery and Administration
- Support the management of PECT’s freephone energy advice line.
- Deliver tasks efficiently across environmental and community projects.
- Manage project logistics, communications, and administrative tasks.
- Maintain accurate records to support monitoring and reporting.
Organisational Contribution
- Uphold PECT’s values, promoting trust, integrity, expertise, and passion in all aspects of your work.
- Contribute to internal and external communications, including promotional materials.
- Assist in developing new project ideas and funding bids.
- Adhere to all relevant organisational policies and procedures.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the line manager to support team and organisational goals.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential criteria:
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with appropriate supervision.
- Attention to detail and confidence in using IT systems.
- Commitment to sustainability and community development.
- Willingness to travel across Cambridgeshire, particularly Fenland, Huntingdonshire, Cambridge City, and East Cambridgeshire.
Desirable:
- Awareness of the energy sector and issues relating to fuel poverty.
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Energy Awareness or equivalent.
- Experience providing energy efficiency advice or working on environmental/community projects.
- Familiarity with administrative systems and digital tools.
- Understanding of sustainability topics such as climate action, waste reduction, or biodiversity.
- Experience working or volunteering in a charity, education, or public sector setting.
