Through interactive, hands-on experiences we strive to cultivate a generation of passionate stewards committed to safeguarding our planet's diverse ecosystems and the creatures within them.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Outdoor Learning Leader to join our team, specialising in outdoor activities in and around wild places in the Edinburgh area. The primary responsibilities of the role are to oversee and facilitate after-school wildlife clubs, fostering a love for nature and the outdoors in young learners, assist in our outdoor teaching sessions and our grounds/conservation projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging outdoor learning sessions that promote wildlife education, conservation and encourage children to embrace their local wild spaces.
  • Lead and supervise groups of students during outdoor activities ensuring their safety and fostering a positive and fun learning environment.
  • Organise and coordinate logistics for off school trips to local wild areas, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Foster a sense of environmental stewardship and appreciation of nature through experiential activities and workshops.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents and community members to promote the benefits of outdoor learning and wildlife appreciation.

Qualifications/experience:

While the following is preferable, full training will be provided and a positive attitude, especially around children, is more important.

  • A suitable degree in related fields preferred but not essential.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor/wild setting.
  • Prior experience working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of local wildlife, ecosystems and conservation principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young learners.
  • Ability to lead and manage groups effectively, ensuring a safe and enriching learning environment.
  • Ability to implement and deliver a left field approach to learning.

Pay & Hours:

£14.75 per hour.

25 hours per week.

Core hours for the after-school clubs are Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30 & Friday 1:00:3:00. Other hours are varied, but usually 3 mornings per week, including one weekend day per month.
