Ecology

Seasonal Ecologist required (June to September/October), Midlands, remote working, £23,000 - £26,000 (pro rata for the fixed term) - 4-day week

Croft Ecology are a small but fast-growing Ecology Consultancy based in South Leicestershire, and operating across the Midlands and occasionally further afield. Specialising in small to medium-sized developments, we offer a broad range of ecological services, from PEAs and BNG reports to Protected Species Surveys, PRAs, EcIAs, mitigation licences and similar.

As a modern, family-oriented business, we understand that life happens (frequently!), so we have built flexibility into our operations. A positive work-life balance is baked in, as the business operates 4 days per week (Mon-Thu), with colleagues working 32 hours over 4 days, for a typical full-time salary.

We are seeking a Seasonal Ecologist to help us in delivering a friendly, professional ecology service to our growing customer base.

You will be home-based, ideally within an hour or so of a number of Midlands Counties.

Croft Ecology are committed to ongoing professional development and are happy to consider applicants looking to gain experience on a temporary basis initially. This appointment has potential to evolve into a permanent position for the right candidate.

Roles Overview

As a Seasonal Ecologist, you will play a key role in assisting with the delivery of ecological surveys, assessments, and habitat management plans, supporting our Ecologists and Senior Ecologists in the preparation and delivery of a range of interesting projects.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Desk-based support for the wider ecology team involving preparation of reports and undertaking data searches
  • Ecological coordination and survey arrangements including survey logistics and access arrangements
  • Undertaking a range of bat surveys including use of thermal and infrared cameras and both handheld and automated detectors
  • Monitoring site activities and liaising with the project team to ensure surveys are completed as scheduled and in line with project requirements
  • Video analysis of data gathered during surveys
  • Reporting input for any surveys undertaken

Candidate Profile

Applicants for the seasonal role must be willing and able to work from home, preferably located within an hour or so of a number of Midlands Counties, and will ideally have the following:

  • A degree in a relevant science or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills with good attention to detail
  • Some experience of habitat and species surveys, or willingness to learn
  • Enthusiasm for the natural environment
  • A full driving licence and your own car

Benefits

We offer a range of benefits with this role, to include:

  • £23,000 - £26,000 salary (pro rata for the fixed term)
  • 4-day (32 hrs) week
  • Flexible remote/home working with regular in-person catch ups
  • Training opportunities
  • Flexible TOIL arrangements for those busy summer months
