SHORELINE SURVEYS – SURVEY COMMERICAL MANAGER – FULL TIME (40 HOURS)

SURVEY COMMERCIAL MANAGER

Shoreline Surveys is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Survey Commercial Manager to support and lead the commercial activities of our Hydrographic Division. This role combines operational knowledge with business acumen to drive contract success, maximise resource efficiency, and contribute to the company’s long-term growth. You will work closely with internal teams and clients, ensuring smooth project delivery and strong commercial performance across our portfolio.

This position requires flexibility, leadership, and the ability to work across departments in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will play a vital role in leading and supporting the commercial operations of Shoreline Survey’s Hydrographic Division. This position combines hands-on operational expertise with commercial insight to ensure efficient resource use, drive business growth, and maintain strong contract and client management. You will help shape strategic direction while ensuring the successful delivery of projects and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and submit tenders and proposals for new work.
  • Review, negotiate, and manage contracts, identifying key terms and commercial risks.
  • Develop and improve commercial procedures and documentation (SOPs).
  • Manage invoicing, job costing, and follow-ups to ensure timely payments.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and support client retention.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to secure renewals and feedback.
  • Support marketing initiatives and contribute to business development plans.
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and development of survey and commercial staff.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to junior team members.
  • Oversee scheduling and resource planning for survey personnel and equipment.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and long-term strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with UK laws and relevant industry regulations.
  • Conduct and update project risk assessments as needed.
  • Encourage cross-team collaboration and continuous improvement in commercial practices.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in Hydrographic Surveying or a related field (IHO Cat A or B preferred).
  • A Minimum of 10 years’ experience in inshore hydrographic surveying using small vessels (<12 metres).
  • Strong background with multibeam, side scan sonar, and survey equipment.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and commercial project oversight.
  • Team leadership and project management experience.
  • Proficient in survey software such as Hypack and NaviPac.
  • Ability to travel and work flexibly according to project needs.

Desirable:

  • Commercially endorsed boat handling certificate.
  • Experience towing equipment (ideally up to 5.5 tonnes).
  • Leadership or management qualification.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

The role will be primarily based at Shoreline Survey’s office, where you will collaborate closely with the wider operations and management teams. While some flexibility may be required to support project needs or attend client meetings, the position is predominantly office-based to ensure effective coordination of commercial activities, contract management, and internal communication.
