Trees and Woodland Surveyors - Oak Processionary Moth (OPM)

Acres Wild Woodlands Ltd working for the Forestry Commission

Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire or SE London/ also Derbyshire

We have a number of full time seasonal vacancies for 9th June start in our regional survey teams. We survey woodlands and individual trees to locate OPM nests on behalf of the Forestry Commission, enabling the pest to be controlled and the trees conserved. We will have a training day run by the FC for new starters on 5th June in London.

We offer full training and pay £120 a day initially, increasing on subsequent surveys. We also pay full mileage allowance. We will be working full time Monday to Friday into September, with the likelihood of extension and typically have a winter survey starting again from mid January until mid April.

You will be joining a dedicated team of self employed ecologists and surveyors, many of whom have worked with us over several years. This is a good entry level position, offering valuable work experience for those looking to pursue ecological or forestry careers, and will also appeal to experienced ecologists available for seasonal work. Many previous surveyors, having gained survey experience with us have moved into successful permanent positions in Tree Health and related roles.

There is also the potential for work on our other surveys for the Forestry Commission, for example Sweet Chestnut Blight, Spruce Bark Beetle and also in helping assess new urban tree planting.

You will need to be physically fit, enjoy team work and be punctual and methodical in your approach to work. You should provide own binoculars, gps and smart phone and have a vehicle for work.
