North Western Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA)

The IFCA Vision is to lead, champion and manage a sustainable marine environment and inshore fisheries, by successfully securing the right balance between social, environmental and economic benefits to ensure healthy seas, sustainable fisheries and a viable industry.

The NWIFCA, one of 10 Authorities for the English Coast, is established under the Marine and Coastal Access act (2009). NWIFCA has stronger powers for enforcement of fisheries regulations, as well as having duties to protect and enhance the marine environment. A large part of this will be care for a new suite of Marine Protected Areas to be known as Marine Conservation Zones (MCZ).
