On the edge of one of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes. Hidden on the borders of Dartmoor National Park, Dartmoor Zoo boasts a wonderful 33 acres of woodland, celebrating a wide range of exotic and native animals, including the biggest variety of Big Cats in the South West of England.
We have a fantastic award-winning education programme and Dartmoor Zoo is an accredited centre for Learning Outside the Classroom.
The Conservation and Research department is incredibly active. We have links with many Universities and higher education institutions enabling us to conduct research into cognition, behaviour, conservation, animal welfare and the social sciences.
Last year marked the beginning of the first in situ conservation project for Dartmoor zoo. The project involves tracking Iberian wolves in Portugal to monitor population dynamics and to observe the predator-prey relations. This has been, and continues to be, a massive success with several students becoming involved with the studies. Projects such as this one has led to Dartmoor zoo becoming respected within the academic community.
