The North York Moors became a National Park on 28 November 1952 and is one of 15 National Parks in the United Kingdom.

We consider what benefits the National Park can provide to meet the needs of society and responds to current issues such as the need to produce more food, improve health and well being and adapt to the effects of a changing climate. Continuing to enhance the landscape, natural environment and cultural heritage of the Park is nevertheless central to our aims which include strengthening the Park’s habitat networks and conserving the important buildings and monuments.
