Conservation & WildlifeEcology

Join us for a virtual event aimed at conservationists exploring the successes and challenges of reintroducing invertebrate species for conservation purposes. We'll delve into how translocation and captive breeding programmes have been attempted for different species of invertebrates and the lessons that have been learned through these projects.

We'll discuss the importance of evidence-based conservation and how implementation of best practices can reduce the risk of failure and unintended side effects such as the spread of pathogens and parasites.

Speaker Programme

This event will be hosted by Dr Helen Taylor (Royal Zoological Society of Scotland) and will feature 4 speakers who have published their reintroduction case studies.:

  1. Fisher's Estuarine Moth: Spreading Its Wings in Essex with Zoe Ringwood (Essex Wildlife Trust)
  2. Fen Raft Spiders: A Moving Story with Dr Helen Smith (British Arachnological Society)
  3. Short-haired Bumblebees: Challenges & Lessons with Dr Jane Sears (RSPB)
  4. Bringing Back the Chirp: 30 Years of Cricket Conservation in Britain with Dave Clarke (Zoological Society of London)

The presentations will be recorded and shared with those who booked alongside Q&A transcripts and lists of useful links via a password-protected website following the event.
