Why We Want You:

Strathbeg is a spectacular coastal loch with adjoining beaches, marsh, reedbed, wet grassland and arable farmland. We want to share this amazing reserve with you and are looking for enthusiastic residential volunteers to assist us in the effective day to day management of the reserve and help us to complete a busy work programme. We also manage four other reserves, including two large seabird colonies.

What’s In It For You:

During your stay you will be a key member of the team and be involved in a range of tasks including:

  • Practical conservation work, such as scrub clearance, tree planting and fencing
  • Estate maintenance work
  • Depending on the time of year, you can assist with seabird counts, breeding waders and duck surveys, Wetland Bird Surveys (WeBS), dawn goose counts and farmland bird surveys.

No two days on the reserve are the same and there's always something new and different to get involved with. You will be living on the reserve itself and will be fully involved with all aspects of reserve life.

This is an excellent chance to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation and gain a valuable insight into the day to day running of a nature reserve.

You will be at least 18 yrs old. Own transport desirable, but not essential. Enthusiasm, an interest in conservation and wildlife, the ability to work as part of a team is essential. You must be comfortable walking long distances over rough terrain and be able to undertake strenuous manual tasks outside in all weathers.

Accommodation is provided in a farmhouse on the reserve.
