Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Volunteer • Part Time

Sectors: conservation & wildlife, environmental education

Closing date: Wednesday, 20th July 2022

Potteric Carr is a wild oasis just waiting to be explored. Nestling between motorway and railway, it's a remnant of the vast fenland that once stretched all the way across the Humber basin to the coast. Around each corner you'll discover a true mosaic of habitats, from reedbeds swaying gently under big open skies to winding woodland trails and networks of ponds teeming with life. During summer, the meadows are full of butterflies and abuzz with insects, while winter brings the magic of thousands of starlings creating incredible aerial displays. Listen carefully and you might even hear the booming of the elusive bittern!

As the Potteric Carr Nature Reserve Trainee you’ll be providing support to staff who work with a wide variety of stakeholders. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop and deliver a range of projects at Potteric Carr, including infrastructure to improve our operations at Potteric and community engagement projects. You will also be carrying out practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups, aiding with educational events, including office-based reserve management. There will also be opportunities to help lead guided walks and other events. The role is based at our South Yorkshire Gateway site, Potteric Carr Nature Reserve.

The role is for 12 months, for 3 days a week, comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses.

Closing date for applications: 9am Wednesday 20th July 2022.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 3rd August 2022.
