Role title: BTO Young Trustee (16-24 years old)
For the first time we are very pleased to be recruiting a Young Trustee to join our Board in 2023. BTO is committed to increasing its equality, diversity and inclusion and believe that having a diverse Board, and young people making a contribution as a Trustee enables this. This role is intended to give young people that may not consider themselves for Trustee roles, the opportunity and confidence to get involved.
BTO has progressed Youth Engagement over recent years and this has played a part in our commitment to recruiting a Young Trustee, you can find out more about our Youth Advisory Panel and youth engagement work here. As a member of Board you will make an important contribution to our commitment to increasing Youth engagement but it is important to say that your role will not be to represent all young people on the Board, rather in your own right your skills, knowledge and experience will help provide a broader range of perspectives to BTO and its Board.
Trustees work with the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team to create and enable the organisational strategy. BTO’s Board, along with the Chair of Board has overall legal responsibility for BTO, ensuring financial regulatory and monitoring performance. Trustees have the opportunity to contribute to discussions, identify key issues and provide advice, ideas and encouragement on various topics, all of which help BTO to achieve its vision and mission. BTO provides induction and training opportunities to all Trustees to support them to fulfil their role
In this role, we are recruiting for potential and learning in the role will be supported - you will receive mentoring and support to contribute as a full member of the Board over time, support and training will be discussed and agreed with you based upon your needs, and experience.

The Board meets five times a year, in February, May, July, September and November; meetings are normally during the day and held both virtually and in person. We will work with the successful candidate to enable them to participate based upon their needs and availability.
This is a voluntary, unpaid position with expenses reimbursed while travelling to meetings. We are able to compensate for loss of income to remove barriers to people from applying for Trustee roles and in turn enable a more diverse and representative Board.
