Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary rescue and rehabilitate primates from the UK pet trade. We are offering 2 and 4 week funded, live-in placements during 2022 if you meet the European Solidarity Corps requirements (are aged between 18 and 30, do not need the placement as part of a university/college course and haven’t previously completed an ESC placement). 5 days per week when living on site (usually 8.40am till 5:00pm).

Volunteers assist in in various ways here at Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary. Tasks include daily cleaning of monkey enclosures, which can often take the whole morning, as well as food preparation and making enrichment items. Volunteers have an hour lunch break, followed by afternoon jobs. These are varied and may involve re-roping enclosures, making hammocks, composting, collecting large branches, and adding wood chip to outdoor spaces. There will also be general maintenance work of the site which will need to be done, such as gardening, painting and cleaning and helping out in the shop/cafe when open to the public.

Volunteers will receive talks on the organisation and our history as well as talks by the Keepers about each species of monkey on site. The work at the Sanctuary is hard and physically demanding so volunteers must be fit and able. Volunteers will shadow their supervisor who will show them all the tasks and how to complete them in the correct and safe way. Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied and must be worn at all times when carrying out certain tasks. Volunteers are required to listen carefully as it can be dangerous working near to wild animals. Rules on how to behave around the monkeys will be explained thoroughly.
