The UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme are looking for more volunteers to help survey butterflies in pre-selected 1km squares across the UK, as part of the Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey. The survey takes place in July and August and involves recording butterflies along two 1km transect lines through a random, pre-selected square in your area. We ask that you make a minimum of two visits during this period leaving at least 10 days between surveys. Surveys usually take 1 - 1.5hours and are a great way to discover new areas as well as contributing to a valuable national survey.

A full information pack and support will be provided but you will need to be happy to visit the sites on your own and have good identification skills of common butterfly species.

To find your nearest available square and get involved please contact your regional WCBS Champion. For general enquiries or to find out more please contact WCBS Officer, Megan Lowe, via email: [email protected]ย
