Closing date: Thursday, 20th May 2021

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has an exciting voluntary trainee opportunity that is part of a community engagement initiative. The Bradford Urban Discovery (BUD) project, funded by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, delivers community engagement activities across seven green spaces in South West Bradford.

The project aims to reconnect people with their local greenspaces and nature through inclusive community events and volunteering that will include; local groups, schools, families, individuals and anyone that would like to join and take part in the project!

As a BUD project voluntary trainee you’ll also be part of the West Region team, which supports a suite of high quality nature reserves from rural grassland and upland reserves to city centre greenspaces. You’ll be assisting the team to work closely in partnership with Local Authorities on greenspace design, management and community involvement.

In this role you will have a unique opportunity within the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to work with both our Nature Reserves Team and our BUD project Inspiring People Officer. The role will be a fantastic mix of practical conservation tasks and creative and playful engagement activities within a project team with lots of experience and passion for working in urban greenspaces and with diverse and hard to reach communities. As a voluntary trainee you will be supported to develop your skills in land management, practical conservation and community engagement.

The role is for 6 months, for 3 days a week, comes with a competitive training budget, access to the internal volunteer training programme (free) and travel expenses. Ideally we would like the successful candidate to start in June 2021.

All field work and activities will be carried out in South West Bradford and home working will be a requirement for some of the duration of the traineeship due to restrictions on YWT office space in line with government guidance.

When we do return to office working, this will be based at Stirley Community Farm in Huddersfield.
