Sectors: environmental policy & campaigning, carbon, climate & energy, conservation & wildlife

Closing date: Thursday, 4th February 2021

Are you passionate about the environment and human rights, and using digital media to protect people and planet?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative volunteer to contribute to our digital campaigning, writing social media posts and other copy for our website. You will work across all our campaigns, helping to end slavery at sea and illegal fishing; protect climate refugees and halt the climate crisis; prevent the harm caused by the fast fashion industry, and conserve wildlife and forests.

You will work closely with the communications and campaigning teams to produce high quality posts which inspire people to take positive action for people and planet, reporting to and supported by an experienced EJF staff member. You will have access to EJF’s outstanding catalogue of images to creatively tell our stories, and you will learn new skills, or develop existing ones, in social media advertising, analytics and content creation.

Why volunteer for EJF?

You will gain valuable experience in working for a dynamic and high-impact charity. You will be given the chance to think creatively, trying out new ideas. This is a great opportunity to be part of a friendly team working to secure environmental justice.

Dynamic, agile and effective, the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is working to secure a world where natural habitats and environments can sustain, and be sustained by, the communities that depend upon them for their basic needs and livelihoods.

The role is voluntary for a period of 3 months+, minimum of 2 days per week. Post-Covid, you will be based in our Bath office. When in the office, local (Bath/Bristol) travel costs will be paid together with a lunch allowance. Until Covid-19 lockdowns are lifted and we return to the office, you will work remotely.

Skills and attributes

  • Strong social media skills, with a passion for clearly explaining complex subjects and an understanding of the best approaches for each platform we use.
  • Proactive attitude in identifying new developments in digital media and how we can use them to tell our stories.
  • Investigative spirit with a desire to root out the best stories from all our international campaigns.
  • Ability to work independently to find creative ways of engaging people on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Commitment to EJF’s goals of protecting people and planet.

Tasks

  • Write posts for all our social media platforms, in collaboration with our Digital Campaigners.
  • Review and provide input on scripts for short social media videos.
  • Scan the news for hooks to use to get EJF’s messages out.
  • Assist on admin tasks such as updating our database of key individuals in the areas we work in.
  • Develop new ideas for how to raise EJF’s profile.

To apply, please send your CV and a short cover letter (including your availability: start date and preferred days) to [email protected] by 4th Feb 2021.
