Flight Free UK is looking for our next group of interns to help spread our campaign. Suitable for those interested in sustainability issues and environmental campaigning seeking to gain more experience in the sector.

Flight Free UK is a grassroots campaign with the aim of reducing the number of flights we take. We run the Flight Free 2020 pledge which asks people to take a year off flying in order to reduce emissions and create a social shift away from aviation. We are soon to launch the Flight Free 2021 pledge.

We launched in February 2019 and since than have gained more than 6,800 pledges and a 10k+ following on our social media channels. Our aim is to double our reach by next summer.

The campaign team includes the director (Anna), a part-time social media officer and a small team of volunteer interns. The campaign currently has a small amount of funding which we hope to build on.

The internship is flexible but we ask for at least ten hours per week, for a period of at least three months. Longer term internships are available.

The following roles are available:

  • Graphic design – generating a series of graphics to illustrate the various aspects of aviation. Full briefing and guidance given. Must have access to graphic design software.
  • Podcast – generating and recording podcast content. This is a creative role. Must have access to sound recording equipment and have editing experience.
  • Admin – emailing people who might want to hear about the pledge e.g. local green groups.
  • Social media – assisting the social media officer in managing our social media accounts.

Must have access to a computer and the internet, as most of the work will be done remotely, from your home location. Full guidance and regular supervision is given.

To apply, please email your CV and a covering statement about why you wish to work with Flight Free UK to [email protected]

Please include in your application why you specifically wish to work for Flight Free UK (rather than general environmental campaigning). It helps if you have signed the pledge. Please specify which role you would like to apply for, and how your past experience and values are relevant to the role.
