Do you have the professional qualifications and skills to help us with procurement for a new EU funded project? You will help to source and deliver a range of items to ensure the success of the project, which aims to secure legal and sustainable fisheries in Liberia, protecting coastal livelihoods and improving food security.

We are looking for a volunteer with an interest in design and engineering, who is details orientated, innovative and able to complete due diligence to offer serious recommendations for a publicly funded project.

Your tasks will include researching various items (including solar units and building materials), getting quotes and presenting recommendations to the Executive Director. There may be the opportunity for travel to Liberia and the possibility of a paid role in the future for the right candidate.

The procurement will take place across 3 major areas:

Solar

  • We will be looking to purchase complete solar units including panels, inverters and lithium ion batteries ‘in sequence’.
  • These units will need to power small offices, running a fridge, lighting, computers, air conditioning and multiple charge points for mobile phones and portable lights.
  • We will want to monitor the flow of electricity and the charge in the battery
  • In order to decide on a system, we will need to be able to compare the surface area of panels and the cost per kw/hr
  • We will be looking for companies that can provide the system and an engineer to install in Liberia, training the local team to maintain it

Building

  • We will be looking to build several large, simple meeting spaces in various locations throughout Liberia, incorporating small offices for staff/volunteers
  • Some of the locations, particularly in the far north and south of the country, have limited access and innovative solutions will be needed to ensure the buildings meet local needs whilst also using appropriate materials

Miscellaneous

  • Some smaller items, such as computers will also need to be purchased
  • A boat will be required for at-sea investigations and we would like to investigate the possibility of building this in-country

Why volunteer for EJF?

You will gain valuable experience at a dynamic and high-impact charity, and have an opportunity to use your own creativity, passion and skills to have a real impact for people and planet. This is a great opportunity to be part of a friendly, exciting team working to secure environmental justice.

Dynamic, agile and effective, the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is working to secure a world where natural habitats and environments can sustain, and be sustained by, the communities that depend upon them for their basic needs and livelihoods.

The role is voluntary for a period of 2 months, minimum of 1 day per week. Based in Bath or London, local (Bath/Bristol or inner London) travel costs will be paid together with a lunch allowance.

To apply, please send your CV and a short cover letter (including your availability: start date and preferred days) to volunteers@ejfoundation.org by 21 February 2020. This post will be filled as soon as the right candidate applies, so don't delay!
