  • Love being outside?
  • Want to share your enthusiasm with others?
  • Want to work in the environment sector, but lack the experience to land your first job?

We are now recruiting 16-25-year olds to join us for a 6-month placement at our environment centre and wildlife area in South Leeds.

The deadline for applications is 10:00am Monday, 10th February 2020.

Send in your application before the deadline, and we will let you know whether you have been successfully invited to interview.

To apply, complete an application form and send it back before the deadline using our contact details.

The Natural Heritage Traineeship volunteer programme provides training and skills for 16-25-year olds* and is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Trainees will help deliver our programme of nature education, bushcraft, wild play days, and even help lead a wild camping adventure for children during the summer.

As an important member of our team you will learn about the nature that flourishes here, learn how to take care of it, and pass on your enthusiasm for the natural world to others.

*If you are interested in this traineeship but are over the age of 25 then please apply here or contact us for more information.

Training and Travel

  • A training package worth over £1500 including training in leadership, conservation skills, practical tool use, working with children, first aid, safeguarding, health & safety, risk assessment and environmental games
  • Support for participation in an NVQ in environmental conservation or help for you to achieve John Muir Award recognition
  • Travel expenses up to £6.50 a day or a monthly bus pass for your journeys
  • Branded clothing and protective equipment to keep you safe in your role

We have partnered with The Prince’s Trust who will help you with CV and job searching skills to give you the best possible chance of landing a job in the sector. Past volunteers have gone on to work for schools, The Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Groundwork, Leeds City Council, Sustrans and The Conservation Volunteers.

What we are looking for

We require people aged 16-25 who can commit 3 or 4 days a week for 6 months. We can consider people who can only do 2 days a week, though they would have to choose whether to focus on practical conservation work or working with children.

You don’t need any previous experience, but you must be keen to learn and try something new.

The Conservation Volunteers are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References for prospective volunteers will be followed up and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out before volunteering opportunities begin.

If you’d like to join our email list we can keep in touch with you about volunteer opportunities, volunteering days and other events that you can get involved in – just email us and ask to be added to the email list.
