Are you looking for the chance to develop your skills in conservation communication? Do you want to learn more about the local wildlife? Do you want the chance to live on reserve in the centre of the Caledonian pine forest with pine martens and badgers for neighbours? Ahead of an exciting and busy breeding season we are looking for two long-term volunteers to play a vital role in the day to day running of the Loch Garten Nature Centre and developing our visitor access mapping for the reserve.

We are looking for outgoing people who love nature and can pass on that passion to others. We want someone who can work as part of a close-knit team and be adaptable to life on the reserve. Volunteering with the Nature Centre team during the season will train you to engage and enthuse the public about our local wildlife. The position will train you to lead guided walks, interact with the public through multiple media channels and provide you with experience in promoting membership for the RSPB. You will also learn to run events and give presentations on our conservation goals. Extra training on reserve will also to opportunities to develop skills with software such as Merlin and GIS. This role will give you the confidence and experience to develop a career in conservation.

As a long-term volunteer, you will be an essential part of our friendly, passionate and knowledgeable team. Our goal is to inspire every visitor to connect and engage with wildlife and ultimately support the work of the RSPB to save nature. This is a unique opportunity to spend 6 months in the heart of Abernethy forest, learn a huge amount about the wildlife and experience life in one of the UK’s last great wildernesses.

This is a 6 month position with the correct candidate being selected to start in March.

Accommodation is provided and bicycles are also available to explore the area.
