The natural world is amazing, and we love helping our visitors to connect to nature. Your help is needed to engage with visitors to ensure they have everything they need for an enjoyable, informative and inspiring experience. And just as important, to ensure their support and learning continues after their visit by promoting RSPB membership.

As one of Europe’s most important seabird colonies and top UK wildlife spectacles; this is a great place to gain some new skills, meet new friends or just take time out of everyday life, at the same time as making a valuable contribution to saving nature.

What’s in it for you?

  • An opportunity to be part of the country’s largest nature conservation charity
  • Volunteering at one of the most successful RSPB reserves
  • The chance to pass on your passion for nature to enthuse others
  • Training in the RSPB’s GREAT Welcome and membership recruitment
  • The opportunity to become part of a friendly, supportive team
  • Opportunities to use and develop skills and personal initiative
  • References if appropriate

The skills you need

  • An infectious enthusiasm for nature and its conservation
  • A warm and friendly personality
  • The confidence to initiate conversations with the public
  • Able to communicate with visitors from all walks of life with differing knowledge and interest
  • The ability to listen and respond appropriately
  • To be able to lead and support in the delivery of the site’s GREAT welcome framework at all times
  • To advocate a positive ‘can-do’ membership culture, so that more membership conversations take place, with a higher proportion of those conversations resulting in members of the public joining and greater membership income for the RSPB
  • Basic computer skills are needed for membership recruitment
