Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

Skipton & North Yorkshire

Volunteer • Full or Part Time 01904 659570 Marie Fooks

Sectors: conservation & wildlife, ecology

Closing date: Thursday, 31st October 2019

Across North Yorkshire, our reserves team carries out vital practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups and carrying out office-based reserve management to enhance and protect nature. We are offering the opportunity for two new voluntary trainees to gain valuable experience within this team and develop skills in all aspects of habitat management.

Our reserves in North Yorkshire are incredible sites where you can see wildlife spectacles throughout the year. From incredible woodlands, to the flower-rich meadows found in the Yorkshire Dales, with this opportunity you can expect to gain valuable experience in nature reserve management across a broad range of fascinating habitats and locations.

The will be split between office-based tasks and practical habitat conservation work on various public nature reserves throughout North Yorkshire in the Craven area (Ingleborough), with most time spent at our nature reserves. You will develop skills and gain experience carrying out habitat management activities such as tree planting, drystone walling, surveying and monitoring, amongst a variety of other jobs. Tasks often involve working with local volunteers to manage sites and part of the role will include leading volunteer groups in practical activities.

Most of our work sites are located in remote locations, away from main public transport routes, therefore this role is more suited to a person who holds a full driving license and is willing to drive as part of the role. This role will be based at our office in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

This role is for 12 months, 3 days a week and is part of a wider rolling programme of Traineeships offered by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust – you will be part of a wider team of 20+ voluntary trainees and an internal programme of training and development is offered to all trainees, as well as a budget for training (to be agreed with your supervisor once the placement has started). We also offer a contribution towards daily out-of-pocket travel expenses to all our voluntary trainees.

Closing date: Thursday 31st October 2019 9am
Interview date: Thursday 14th November at our Skipton Office
Start date: November/December
