Groundwork South is looking for a volunteer to join the team for a long-term voluntary placement implementing training and outreach activities encouraging communities to get involved in water quality testing of local rivers.

Role & Responsibilities

You will join Groundwork’s Countryside Development Manager in a number of activities including:

  • Monitoring of water quality and river habitats, including measuring Nitrate and Phosphate content, pH, Temperature and Identifying Invasive Species.
  • Supporting local community groups to monitoring water quality and river habitats with advice, via workshops and demonstrations.
  • Ensuring monitoring data is accurately recorded and uploaded to a central database.
  • Raising awareness of local water issues with the East Hampshire Catchment Partnership

We are looking for volunteers to commit for a minimum of 6 months and ideally just over a 1 year, to establish strong relationships within the community for the various project activities.

You will be available initially on Mondays or Fridays to work with the Countryside Development Manager, based out in the community or at our Eastleigh Office: Energy Youth Centre, 79 Leigh Road, Eastleigh SO50 9DQ

You may also conduct outreach activities on days other than Mondays, for example in schools, colleges or community organisation, which may involve evening and weekend activity.
