Fundraising Volunteer

The World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) is looking to expand our team to support our growth. This is an exciting time for the organisation, where several projects are progressing rapidly, and additional skills are desired to ensure that all aspects of the organisation are supported sufficiently by individuals with expertise in those areas.

Background: On World Oceans Day 2013 the World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) launched as a fledgling partnership made up of a group of dedicated grass roots NGOs, passionate individuals, and commercial whale watching businesses desperate to make a positive difference for whales and dolphins. Fast-forward to the present and the WCA is already the world’s largest marine conservation partnership. Operating through our partners in over 40 countries worldwide, we focus on whales and dolphins as the iconic and inspiring animals with the greatest potential to encourage millions of people to want to protect our blue planet.

Our Partners join WCA because they believe in the power of the many. Because they want to be part of our family. Because they will be treated with respect. Because they still get to retain their own identity. And because they feel, as we feel, that it will take a huge collective effort to halt biodiversity loss and animal cruelty, and inspire a new ocean-friendly and sustainable world.

We are seeking a new team member with fundraising experience who will, in time, be leading the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy in collaboration with the secretariat and Trustees.

An ideal opportunity for someone to develop and embed a proven fundraising system in a small organisation that is rapidly growing. There will be lots of opportunity to directly shape the fundraising we do with a team who are passionate about the charity.

You should ideally hold a recognised fundraising qualification, or significant and relevant experience, have an understanding of the key fundraising streams including individual supporters, major donors and corporate partnerships and have experience in achieving fundraising goals. They will ideally be working in the sector so that they have expertise on current issues, and they should be passionate about conservation and animal welfare globally.

Time Commitment: Ideally the volunteer would be able to spend at least one day a week working with us on an ongoing basis but working for a short dedicated period of time would also be appropriate. The volunteer will be expected to remotely attend one meeting per month, with additional meetings being optional. These meetings will often occur outside of office hours, but timings will be flexible depending on the availability of attendees.

Application Instructions: Please e-mail your CV, along with a covering letter, stating why you wish to join World Cetacean Alliance (WCA). The letter should state how your skills and experience will contribute to the team, and explain how you will meet the requirements stated above.
