Are you looking to gain skills & experience working in the environment & conservation sector?

Are you passionate about the outdoors & working with people?

TCV is looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Officers to help lead & deliver projects with our midweek group of volunteers. You would be given a fantastic opportunity to develop & gain practical skills & experience delivering conservation projects, learn how to lead groups of volunteers & gain new ones!

A Volunteer Officer or VO will offer a regular amount of time and play an integral part in the smooth running of conservation projects. There are three distinct roles that a VO will undertake:

  • Pre-project planning: risk assessments, site visits and pre-project planning/ organisation
  • Practical nature conservation and leadership: Leading and assisting groups of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds on project days to complete conservation tasks such as, sowing wildflowers, tree care, wildlife surveys, invasive species removal and much more
  • Supporting the day to day running of the office including database management and updating the Volunteer Blogs.

But there’s normally scope for you to pick and choose what you would like to do - maybe even develop some new areas of interest for TCV!

At TCV an enthusiasm for the environment is what you need! If you have an interest in gaining practical conservation experience and in leading groups, this is for you.

  • We are looking for people who can help lead and be a part of a team of volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities. Previously teamworking experience and demonstration of leadership would be highly desirable for this role.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of practical conservation tasks is welcome but we can train you in this.
  • We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivating to work around, trustworthy, has good communication skills and able to understand the key roles of a leader.

If you have held a driving license for over 2 years, and are over 21 you may be asked to undertake some driving. *On some occasions we may only be able to recruit people with a driving license for this placement. Please contact us for more info.

You will be given full training and support throughout your time with TCV and be given the opportunity to complete your First Aid certificate and MIDAS if appropriate.

Benefits to you:

Our Volunteer Officer programme is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to learn new skills, help conserve your local environment, contribute to your local community and/or gain the experience vital to land a paid position working in the environmental or community sector. A full training package is provided including First Aid, Project Leadership, Risk Assessment, and Safeguarding. Travel expenses are covered and full support and mentoring is provided by Stirling’s Senior Project Officer. There is scope for you to tailor the role to your requirements; you can have a positive influence on the project’s development.

If you drive you may be asked to drive the mini van with the volunteers, in this case MIDAS training will be provided, as well as internal TCV training and support.

A minimum commitment of 1 day per week is expected, though more is always welcomed! Due to te level of training time involved we are looking for someone who can commit to around 6 months.

Conservation Volunteer Teams run 3 days per week (Mon- Wed) with occasional weekend opportunities or events available if you wish. Please get in touch to discuss the role & if you would like to become a key member of our TCV team!
