We are looking for short term volunteers to help us to map Teignbridge's hedgehog population!  Take part in a fun, practical survey to find the hedgehogs in the region so that we can help communities to take action for our waddly little friends.

What's involved?

We are asking participants to place and monitor a mammal tracking tunnel across 6 nights, refilling the food station and checking and replacing tracking sheets on a daily basis.

Your data will help us to focus our efforts in providing habitat advice and support to take urgent action for hedgehogs across the region.

How will we help you?

You will be invited to a training session on hedgehog ecology and surveying and we will provide tracking tunnels for you to place and check.

We will review your tracking sheets and map the presence of hedgehogs in the area and let you know what used your tunnel.

With your help, we are trying to find out:

  • The presence / absence of hedgehogs in Teignbridge, using footprint-tunnels.¬†
  • The importance of different factors such as habitat features, land management practices and badgers, on where hedgehogs are found in the towns and villages across¬†Teignbridge.
  • Baseline data to enable us to measure the impact of future action taken for hedgehogs.
