Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is the leading voice for wildlife conservation across Hertfordshire and Middlesex. With volunteers, we manage a network of nature reserves covering nearly 2,000 acres, from beautiful wetlands and woodlands to rare patches of heath and orchard. We take practical action every day to help wildlife flourish.

Join the Trust’s busy Communications & Marketing Team as a Volunteer Communications Assistant

We are looking for a Volunteer Communications Assistant to help with social media planning, managing and monitoring, copywriting, public relations and production of Marketing material.

Role location

The main location will be at the Trust’s office in St Albans with occasional visits to Trust sites and events as needed; occasional remote working and working out of business hours (if desired) possible.

Role responsibilities

  • Creating posts for & monitoring social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Writing and proofreading blogs, articles and press releases
  • Writing and producing marketing material (such as leaflets, brochures, posters…)
  • Doing research on local press & media, bloggers

Skills and experience you will need

  • Excellent written English and communication skills
  • Competence in using social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Competence in using creative programmes (Adobe Creative Suite, film editing software) desirable
  • Photography & videography skills desirable
  • Availability and reliability on a weekly basis (occasional remote + working possible)
  • Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection

Volunteer training and support

  • Induction training covering an introduction to the work of the Trust and information on our policies and procedures.
  • Mentoring with an experienced staff member to guide and review your activities.
  • Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed for travel to/from the office, events and site visits.

Anticipated time commitment

We are looking for regular commitment, ideally on a weekly basis. Some weekend work might be included.

The specific time commitment is flexible and could include working from home and out of business hours.
