Residential Volunteer Warden x3

Exe Estuary, Devon

Volunteer • Full Time 07912074140 Becky Longden

Sectors: conservation & wildlife

Closing date: Not specified, apply soon!

Residential volunteer wardens required.

We are looking for enthusiastic residential volunteers to join the Exe Estuary reserves team in Devon. The reserves are internationally important sites for thousands of wintering ducks, geese and waders, with the marshes also sustaining many rare dragonfly and aquatic plant species. You will play a key role in delivering the management that keeps them as top homes for nature.

Based at Exminster Marshes your focus will be on a suite of habitats centred around the Exe Estuary, targeting breeding Lapwing and freshwater ecosystems as well as farmland birds including the iconic Cirl Bunting at our Labrador Bay reserve.

The job varies with the seasons, the majority being practical habitat management and estate work tasks ranging from hedge laying, watercourse management, mowing and maintaining fences. As well as having the chance to work with other people who care about wildlife and the environment, you'll get training and mentoring, and lots of first-hand experience. There will be opportunities for survey work as well as working on public engagement events, developing leadership skills and more.

With a strong record of past candidates entering full time employment in conservation, this is a fantastic opportunity to be supported and develop your existing skills. If you are looking for a career in conservation this is a great place to start.

The ability to work in a team is essential, as is enthusiasm. Specialist knowledge is not necessary, but an interest in wildlife and conservation is. Be prepared to work outside in all weathers and undertake strenuous tasks, as work can be physically demanding especially in winter.

Accommodation within walking distance of the reserve is provided.

Minimum age 18 and a driving licence Essential.

6 month position.

Start date - 3 positions starting April - September
