Herefordshire Wildlife Trust is seeking a Volunteer Trainee Reserves Officer to join its Landscapes department.

This role offers an opportunity to gain practical work experience and training in practical and applied conservation work with a Wildlife Trust in beautiful Herefordshire. The role will see successful applicants working on the Trust’s 50+ nature reserves, including Queenswood Country Park and Bodenham Lake, and is the ideal first step to gaining a career in conservation. Experience in practical conservation work such as coppicing, fencing, and hay meadow management including machinery use will be gained and formal qualifications in first aid and chainsaw use are part of the scheme. Introductions to surveying, management plans and Health and Safety are also on offer.

A formal qualification (degree or similar) in a biological/environmental science or countryside management, a basic knowledge of habitat management principles, and some experience of practical conservation are desirable. All necessary training will be given.
