Closing date: Not specified, apply soon!

We are currently seeking volunteers to take part in ornithological fieldwork activities in southern Sweden. You will be working alongside researchers within the project ‘Urban Birds’, investigating the urban environmental impact on bird behaviour and physiology.

We have ~1000 nestboxes, supporting breeding great tits and blue tits, located in urban and rural sites in the Malmö, Helsingborg and Göteborg areas. You will be involved in monitoring of nestboxes between April and June, to follow breeding activity and collect data on laying date, clutch size, nestling condition etc. Activities include checking nestboxes, recording data on breeding activity, and ringing and measuring chicks. This offers a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field, work as part of a research team, and take part in scientific research activities. All training is provided.

Ideally you would be available to assist with fieldwork on a full-time basis throughout the duration of the spring, but there could be the possibility of contributing on a part-time basis, especially if you already live in one of our study areas of Malmö, Helsingborg or Göteborg. A car will be provided and, if needed, accommodation can be offered for full-time volunteers at our field station, close to Lund. The opportunity could also suit someone already living in one of our study areas of  A valid driver’s license is essential!

Interested candidates should send an email to caroline.isaksson@biol.lu.se or hannah.watson@biol.lu.se indicating their experience and interests, together with a CV and contact details for two people who can provide a character reference.
