We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person to join the Nature Discovery Centre team in Berkshire, helping us manage this busy Visitor Centre and reserve for wildlife and people. You will gain experience of interacting with children and families, running events, sessions for groups and schools and practical conservation. The Centre and nearby Thatcham Reedbeds are a beautiful urban oasis near Newbury. We run a diverse programme of events throughout the year designed to engage local people with the wildlife which is right on their doorstep and inspire them to protect it. These events include family wildlife days, bird of prey days and wildlife photography courses and more. There will be opportunities to get involved in our numerous wildlife clubs for children aged 2 to 16 as well as activities for local community groups such a Brownies and Cubs. We also run health and wellbeing projects, including a café for people living with dementia.

Alongside your day-to-day learning experiences, you will receive a substantial amount of external and internal training, covering community engagement, environmental education, habitat management, species ID and interview training. This will include external accreditation such as First Aid at Work and one other external training course in community engagement.

You will need to have a strong desire to work in nature conservation and an interest in encouraging others to take action for wildlife. You will be physically fit, enthusiastic and be able to engage with people from a range of ages and backgrounds. A valid driving license and own transport are desirable as some of the activities and training takes place at remote locations.
