Closing date: Tuesday, 18th December 2018

Appleton Mill Farm is an established 230 acre beef and arable farm with 100 acres of woodland that holds many ancient woodland indicator flora such as bluebells, wild primrose and wood sorrel. Low Carr Farm is a 100 acre grassland farm where most of lambing and welfare checks takes place for our 500 + flock of Hebridean sheep. These two farms are fast becoming exemplars for conservation farming and our beef shorthorn herd at Appleton Mill Farm has even won awards. We have two voluntary trainee places available and as a Farm and Grazing Voluntary Trainee you will gain skills and experience in all aspects of farm conservation & farm management, plus learn about conservation grazing techniques. This is an exciting and varied role which promises to give you a great mix of skills!

Ideally you will have a driving licence as there may be some on-road driving of tractors and Trust vehicles, plus the farm is in a rural North Yorkshire location that is not easily reached without access to a car.

This role is for 12 months, for 3 days a week, comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses. Accommodation at the farm is provided (utility bills included) with this role at Appleton Mill Farm. There could be occasions where you may have to provide an onsite presence, e.g. Farm Manager away, and a potential to work unsociable hours in line with livestock/farm tasks such as calving and lambing.

*Please note that any tasks involving sheep and lambing can be harmful to a pregnant woman, so please bear this in mind when applying*

Interviews will be held at Appleton Mill Farm, Appleton-le-Moors on Tuesday 8th January 2019 with a hope to have the successful applicants start in January and February 2019.

Please see our website for more information, role description and application form. Completed application forms should be emailed to volunteering@ywt.org.uk.
