Sectors: carbon, climate & energy, sustainability

Closing date: Monday, 26th November 2018

SELCE, is a voluntary owned, Industrial Provident Society for the Benefit of the Community. It is seeking new members of our small, friendly, positive team based in Greenwich near Greenwich train station/DLR, within the offices of GCDA.

We need some extra assistance from people from people who are on the ball and care about helping people and planet.

We are looking for people with existing admin skills and /or energy saving project experience but will provide training and 121 coaching with any unfamiliar aspects.

We have many things on at SELCE- we are have just done our 2nd share offer where we raised the cash to put solar on non domestic buildings to help them reduce costs & emissions, to start getting the feed in tariff in to the organisation and using some of the profits to help fight fuel poverty in our communities. We all have other projects under way tackling climate change and fuel poverty and need several additional volunteers for our GEen teams to help us to stay on top of things and keep organised and effective! One of these projects is our Energy Cafes which we are recruiting volunteers for to support our experienced and qualified champions. You will have the opportunity to support and shadow and even lead sessions when the time is right!

More about SELCE

We aim to empower local residents to take control of energy and contribute to tackling climate change in an equitable way. We believe that communities, regardless of financial resources, should have access to the benefits of affordable low carbon technologies. We collaborate with local residents, businesses and organisations to reduce fuel poverty, and develop financially, socially and environmentally sustainable projects which increase energy efficiency, produce local renewable energy and accelerate the transition to a low carbon energy generation system.

Our aims are environmental, financial and social:

Environmental: To generate renewable and affordable energy in SE London that will mitigate climate change and accelerate the transition to zero-carbon, decentralised, electricity provision for our community.

Financial: To build an economically sustainable business model that: aspires to provide a competitive return on investment compared with savings account interest; is resilient to changes in government policy; and which has a core focus on social responsibility and affordable energy provision.

Social: To provide tangible improvements to the financial situation of those living in fuel poverty in SE London. These benefits could include providing cheaper, co-operatively managed electricity or the financing of programmes that promote energy efficiency and related methods of improving health and wellbeing.

Social: To give organisations that provide valued community services in SE London access to affordable, renewable energy – thereby reducing the burden of escalating energy costs.

Exciting (we are biased) volunteer opportunity for those interested in community solutions to climate change and fuel poverty. We will pay travel expenses and you will get lunch expenses paid too..
