What we're looking for

RSPB Sandwell Valley is an enchanting urban nature reserve located in the middle of a vibrant community. Our young volunteers group is aimed at 13 to 18 year-olds who want to help nature. The group contributes to keeping the reserve in great shape for both people and wildlife, delivering conservation work under the guidance of our group leaders. Activities might involve habitat management, wildlife surveys, creating wildlife homes and more. The aims of the group are: to contribute to saving nature on the reserve; to gain experience, skills and confidence; to have fun!

The skills you need

We're looking for enthusiastic and energetic 13 to 18 year-olds with an interest in wildlife and the outdoors. You will need a willingness to get stuck in, learn new things and get work done in (almost) all weathers. You will need to be able to working in a team, and you'll need to be responsible and reliable. You do not need any previous experience of volunteering or any knowledge of wildlife or conservation. If you do have some, it's great! If you don't though, don't worry: we can help you pick this up after you start.

Your time

One Saturday a month, 12.30 to 3.30pm. Contact us for detailed dates.

What's in it for you?

You will be working in a beautiful green space teeming with wildlife and be part of a friendly team of like-minded people. The group sessions will not be just about work, it's also about having a fun, rewarding time! You will contribute to essential work on the nature reserve, keeping it in great condition for both wildlife and people. You will gain practical conservation skills, improve your team working skills, learn more about how the nature reserve is run and increase your knowledge of wildlife and conservation. You will also have a valuable experience of working with an environmental charity. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe!
