The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) have an exciting opportunity to be part of delivering our contract with Camden Council managing green volunteering across the borough form parks, housing land, nature reserves and community gardens.

TCV have a great opportunity to develop practical project leadership skills by helping lead our Green Gym® projects, running 5 days a week in Camden. There are also many more opportunities to help support and develop your skills, with in promotion, administration, fundraising and project planning.

The TCV Green Gym is a unique and exciting initiative to help people become mentally and physically healthier by taking part in outdoor nature conservation activities.

As a Volunteer Officer you will be helping volunteers to engage with and improve their environment, learn about nature conservation and enjoy healthier lifestyles. You will play an integral part in the smooth running of the Green Gym in Camden

  • Pre-project planning: risk assessments, site surveys, community engagement and liaising with health referral partners, local authorities, and clients.
  • Practical nature conservation and leadership: Leading and assisting groups of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds on project days to complete conservation tasks such as, sowing wildflowers, planting shrub borders, constructing compost bins and pergolas, general gardening and scrub clearance etc.
  • Administration & marketing: Supporting the day to day running of the project including database management, creating newsletters, social media management and promotion.

A full training package is provided including First Aid, Project Leadership, Risk Assessment, and Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups. Reasonable local travel expenses are covered, and full support and mentoring is provided by the Project Officer. Within each project there is scope for you to tailor the role to your requirements; you can have a positive influence on the project’s development.

What you need:

 Essential to this role are excellent communication / people skills and an enthusiasm for the outdoors and the environment.

 If you have an interest in gaining practical conservation skills, learning about leading groups, community engagement and organising work days, this role is for you. A confident cyclist with a full clean or near clean driving license is desirable but not essential.

Acceptance as a Volunteer Officer is subject to satisfactory DBS clearance at the enhanced level. How much time:
