The Voluntary Communities and Wildlife Officer will help with all aspects of community engagement work with Peterborough communities. This is an exciting voluntary role ideal for a recent graduate and/or someone wishing to begin a career in wildlife / environmental education and community engagement work. Applicants need to have an enthusiasm for nature conservation and inspiring a diverse range of communities and individuals to understand and care for wildlife.. He/she will work alongside the Community Wildlife Officer and a range of other Wildlife Trust personnel to gain valuable experience and skills in a variety of aspects related to conservation education and community work that are necessary to engage communities in wildlife conservation.

Excellent communication and good team working skills are essential as well as a high degree of self-motivation.

Volunteers will come from a wide range of backgrounds and may have many different qualities and skills. Experience gained will include:

  • Assisting with the design, planning and delivery of on-site and off-site community events and activities, and outreach programmes, to a range of audiences.
  • Assisting with recruiting and working with volunteers for practical conservation and survey work, and community work.
  • Assisting with the production of interpretation materials, in particular the design and production of resources for use with community groups
  • Participating in practical habitat management and survey tasks
