Local Food Project Volunteer

Hours: 1 or 2 days per week, for 3-6 months

Location: WEN office, Ground Floor, 20 Club Row, London, E2 7EY & out and about around Tower Hamlets
Supported by: Local Food Project Co-ordinator

We are looking for a dynamic volunteer with an interest in food growing and communications to join our friendly, busy team in Shoreditch, East London. Your role will involve hand on experience running food growing workshops, as well as experience in event planning and communications for the project.

You will gain excellent experience working within a small, grassroots environmental charity, with plenty of scope to contribute to all aspects of the organisation’s work depending on your interests.

Role description

  • Supporting our community gardener to deliver 10 therapeutic gardening sessions at Mudchute City Farm
  • Supporting our Local Food Coordinator to organise an inspirational summer event for the Tower Hamlets Local Food Growing Network.
  • Assisting with the creation and circulation of our THFGN e-newsletter
  • Promoting the network at local events
  • Visiting individual food growing projects to assess their needs
  • Contribute to WEN’s core activities and share in general duties such as answering phones, taking messages and carrying out administrative tasks
  • Deal with correspondence, general enquiries and information requests

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  • An interest in food growing or gardening
  • Good time keeping skills
  • Confidence interacting with a wide range of people
  • Confident using Microsoft office
  • Commitment to WEN’s values of equality and sustainability
  • Willing to abide by WEN’s Equal Opportunities Policy

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in food growing or gardening
  • An interest in nature based mental health interventions

Expenses:

  • WEN will cover your travel and lunch expenses of up to £4 for lunch and the price of a London daily Travelcard.
