One Residential Volunteer Internship position has become available with the Central Highland Reserves team,  based in Inverness.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and gain experience to further your aim of achieving employment in the conservation sector. You will be an essential part of the small Central Highland Reserves Team, based at the North Scotland Regional Office in Inverness. 

The Central Highland Reserves are a diverse mix of 5 RSPB reserves and include Loch Ruthven, Nigg Bay, Udale Bay and Culbin Sands. The reserves cover a variety of habitats such as sand dunes, wet grassland and woodland providing a broad range of learning opportunities and experience.

As a member of the Central Highland Reserves team, you will be fully involved in the day-to-day running of the reserves gaining experience in habitat management, infrastructure maintenance, Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) control, working with volunteers, survey and monitoring, projects, health & safety and administration. 

There will also be opportunities to work at RSPB Corrimony reserve and other reserves in the region.

You will be given training required for the role which may included certified courses as well as in-house courses. As this is a replacement post the exact training program can be discussed at the time of application.

Accommodation is provided free (including household bills)  in a two bedroom flat in Inverness for the duration of the Internship. Residential volunteer interns are responsible for providing their own food and travelling between the accommodation and the Office (approx 2.5- 3 miles) e.g. by bike, on foot, or by other means

About You

You will need to be 18 years old or over and have a genuine demonstrable interest in nature conservation with ambitions of gaining employment in environmental conservation. You'll have the ability to work under your own initiative within a small team, must be comfortable and able to walk long distance over rough terrain and have good communication skills. You will need to be able to undertake physical manual tasks outside as well as prepared to take on desk-based admin and office work. A  full manual driving licence is essential for driving RSPB fleet vehicles between the reserves. 

Your time

Minimum commitment: 5 days a week for 6-12 months. As this is a replacement post we are willing to be flexible with the length of the internship.
