Unpaid Intern Required for Period of 8 weeks or more

Cambridge Sustainable Food currently has an opening for an unpaid intern for a period of 8 - 16 weeks or more, starting 3rd September 2018.

Interns work 4 days per week (including the occasional weekend day) and receive a free lunch on working days as well as help with reasonable travel costs. The internship would be very suitable for someone who lives in or near Cambridge, as accommodation costs are very high in the City.

Email bev@cambridgesustainablefood with a CV and covering letter explaining why you are interested in this position.

Cambridge Sustainable Food (CSF) was formed at the end of 2013 and is a network of public, private and community organisations in Cambridge, working to promote a sustainable local food system. We run campaigns and projects (cookery workshops for low-income families and a Sustainable Food Pledge for Businesses) and host a wide range of events ranging from festivals (including the Cambridge Pumpkin Rescue Festival focusing on reducing food waste) and stalls (22 during 2016) to talks and cookery clubs. We raise awareness about food waste, and the relationship between diet and the environment, as well as promoting sustainable practice among Cambridge businesses and educational institutions. CSF is a member of the national Sustainable Food Cities Network, holds their Bronze Award and is working towards their Silver Award. During 2016/17 CSF engaged with over 5000 people. CSF collaborates closely with Cambridge City Council and other public, private and voluntary bodies. We are developing our website as the “go to” place for information on sustainable food in Cambridge, incuding a sustainable food directory.

We are seeking a motivated and flexible intern to help with a wide range of activities, projects and campaigns. The internship is for a minimum of eight weeks, for four days a week. The intern would report to the CSF coordinator, but would also assist other workers on specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help organise and run events, such as public engagement stalls at fairs
  • Help recruit and coordinate volunteers
  • Research content for the website, create pages and blog posts and update events
  • Help publicise and promote projects, campaigns and events through press releases, social media and the creation of posters/flyers
  • Help organise and run our forthcoming Veg Cities campaign, which will run for one year from Autumn 2018
  • Help with the bimonthly e-newsletter, by writing entries and formatting the content
  • Update our Sustainable Food Directory
  • Help with family cookery workshops with low-income families
  • Help with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, updating membership lists and taking minutes at meetings
  • Other tasks depending on the demands of current projects. Work could be tailored to your interests to help build your experience and interests depending on current needs.
