The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is hosting ‘The Suffolk Marine Pioneer’. This is one of four projects established by Defra to inform the implementation of marine policy and governance within the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.

The Marine Pioneer is seeking a voluntary project assistant to support the project manager in delivering the ambitions of two key workstreams of the Pioneer; ‘Suffolk Saltmarsh’ and ‘Exploring Marine Protected Area Governance’.

For each workstream you will be progressing understanding as to how the value of the marine environment can be better acknowledged within decision making. This is an exciting yet challenging opportunity to influence marine environmental management across England through developing and testing novel approaches in partnership with government agencies, charitable organisations, community groups and business interests.

We are looking for a  self-motivated, highly organised person with excellent  interpersonal skills and an analytical mind. We invite expressions of interest for either full and part-time positions of between 2 and 6 months. Prior experience in marine policy is not a pre-requisite but may be an advantage. The successful candidate  can expect to work across all areas of the Marine Pioneer, including; Project management; stakeholder liaison; evaluation and delivery but will be able to tailor  their work to suit their skills and areas of interest. The successful candidate will be encouraged to build expertise in one or more of the following specialisations.

  • Environmental Economics
  • Data Analysis
  • Public Engagement
