Why we need you:

The Conservation Volunteers have an opportunity for a Volunteer Officer (VO) to help with the running of Richmond Green Gym based in Twickenham in the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames and Pevensey Road Green Gym based in Feltham in the London Borough of Hounslow. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of your local community, conserve your local environment as well as gain important skills and experience necessary to gain employment in the environment, community and health sector.

Green Gyms are fun and free outdoor sessions where you will be guided in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows and establishing wildlife ponds. Green Gym's are a unique and free opportunity for local people to get involved in transforming their local green spaces for the benefit of wildlife and the local community. All volunteers regardless of experience or levels of fitness are welcome.

As a Volunteer Officer you will be helping the management of the project as well as engaging volunteers to help improve their local environment, learn about nature conservation and enjoy healthier lifestyles. You will play an integral part in the smooth running of Green Gym. Opportunities include:

  • Practical nature conservation and leadership: Leading and assisting groups of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds on project days to complete conservation tasks such as, sowing wildflowers, tree care, wildlife surveys, invasive species removal, dead hedge creation and many more.
  • Administration experience: pre-project planning, researching conservation activities, creating maps, creating connections within the local community, developing well-being and conservation activities and much more.
  • Marketing experience: campaigns, raising awareness, social media, marketing material, much more.
  • Support & Buddy Scheme: working with less able volunteers to assistance and support them during the Green Gym session to maximize enjoyment and participation. We work with a variety of different people including individuals with mental health issues, health conditions, social issues and disabilities; you could play apart in their road to recovery.
