Closing date: Monday, 4th June 2018

About the Role:

WEN are recruiting a small team of volunteers to support our exciting three year ‘Soil Sisters’ project delivering weekly social and therapeutic horticulture (STH) sessions at 5 women’s refuges across East London.  Funded by BIG Lottery Reaching Communities, WEN are working with Ashiana Network and Hestia to support women to improve wellbeing, raise aspirations, build confidence and develop skills.

You don't have to be an expert gardener! We want creative people with a can-do attitude and a love of nature, who will bring their own skills and interests to shape the project develop beautiful gardens. The gardens are small spaces so will use a range of nature inspired ‘green care’ activities that might also include cooking, crafts, and trips. So its a good environment to learn about what it takes to be a therapeutic gardener.

Volunteers will work alongside the highly skilled team of lead Therapeutic Gardeners.  A friendly, caring approach is really important but the role also requires you to maintain personal boundaries whilst working alongside women during these difficult, often traumatic transitions.  We hope for longer-term commitment so as not to disrupt the groups. Applications from other sectors or diverse experience welcomes.  We especially encourage applications from black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) women and people with lived experience.  WEN want to create a good environment for volunteers so will provide training and ongoing support and supervision. Travel and lunch expenses paid.

There are up to 5 volunteer roles available requiring with a minimum of 3 hours per week per garden.
