Project outline

  • The project will take an in depth look at how environmental stress can influence pollinator behaviour and how this in turn affects the pollination of common crops.
  • Opportunity to contribute to research on both on bumblebee conservation and ecosystem services, whilst gaining valuable experience in conducting scientific research.

Responsibilities

  • The work will involve observing bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) in cages and recording a range of different behaviours exhibited by bees that can affect pollination.
  • The project will also involve capturing bees and measuring morphological traits.

Requirements

  • Ideally be free from June to early August, but shorter time frames for volunteering are acceptable
  • Must be able to travel to CEH site Wallingford
