Are you looking for an office-based opportunity working with a complex library of images, learning about and contributing to Sustrans’ work whilst organising a vital system? We’re currently looking for a positive, organised and rigorous volunteer to help our Digital & Marketing team catalogue, tidy and maintain our Media Library.

The role is based in the Digital and Marketing team, a UK-wide team based in Sustrans’ headquarters in Bristol.

You’ll be predominantly working with the Sustrans Media Library, a resource all Sustrans staff can use to find images suitable for their marketing, communications and reporting activities. However, some of the images are not properly tagged, there are lots of folders and galleries, and it can be difficult for users to find what they are looking for.

This role aims to make the library more user-friendly by appropriately tagging, sorting and quality checking the images and other assets (documents, videos, sound clips) on the platform.

What you'll be doing

The Sustrans Media Library Volunteer will:

  • review images for appropriate descriptions, tags, consent, photographer credit and quality
  • work with relevant staff to identify and update images with user-focussed descriptions and tags, and check essentials such as consent and photographer credit information
  • organise images into user-focussed appropriate folders and galleries, working with gallery/folder owners as appropriate
  • upload images to the library
  • archive images as appropriate
  • support image sourcing for Sustrans social media channels including Instagram
  • attend relevant training and induction sessions
  • be able and willing to act in accordance with Sustrans’ policies and procedures
  • record volunteer activities on VolunteerNet.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who has:

  • good IT and digital skills
  • experience of, or confident with, using a digital library/storage platform
  • a demonstrable interest in photography and knowledge of what makes a good photo
  • a fast learner
  • good attention to detail
  • used to working systematically and rigorously
  • good communication skills
  • good time management.

Time commitment

The Media Library Volunteer will be required to attend a half day induction before starting their role. We would like a volunteer for a morning/afternoon (4 hours) a week, ideally for 6 months+. The day and time can be chosen based on your availability.

Training and support offered

  • Regular manager catch-ups to discuss progress.
  • Training in using the Sustrans Media Library.
  • Training in Sustrans model consent and photo crediting policy.
  • Data protection training.
  • Full Sustrans volunteer induction.
